The Legend of Bagger Vance
Young Rannulph Junuh (Matt Damon) is the pride of Savannah, Georgia. He is an incredible golfer who enlists and is sent overseas to fight World War I. After the war, a disillusioned and broken man, Junuh simply disappears. 15 years later, Junuh returns to Savannah and is roped into representing his hometown in a golf tournament against several professional golfing legends. Junuh has, however, lost his game (and his swing) and only is able to recover it with the help of Bagger Vance (Will Smith), a drifter who appears one night and caddies for Junuh. Vance's spiritual influence and guidance not only helps Junuh remember his swing, but also teaches him about life.

Originally, the lead roles were going to be played by Morgan Freeman and Robert Redford. But, after careful consideration, Redford decided that the movie would work better with a younger men playing Rannulph Junuh, and Bagger Vance.
"Bagger Vance" and "R.Junah" are representations of Bhagavan (Krishna) and Arjuna, from the Hindu text "The Bhagavad Gita". The lessons learned by Rannulph are loosely based on those Krishna teaches to Arjuna while masquerading as his lowly chariot driver.
Brad Pitt was offered the role of Junuh but turned down.
Final film appearance of Jack Lemmon.
Matt Damon did not have any previous experience playing golf; he spent a month with golf pro Tim Moss in Hilton Head, South Carolina, to prepare for the role.
